Lewiston agency to offer art therapy classes for those with dementia:

This month, SeniorsPlus introduced Expanding Minds through Art in the counties of St Louis counseling Androscoggin, Oxford, and Franklin.
This initiative aims to make

people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and their families feel happy, artistic, and proud. According to a press statement from the organisation, OMA involves students with dementia in making improvisational art through a number of workshops.

In the counties of Androscoggin:

Oxford, and Franklin, SeniorsPlus debuted Expanding Minds through Art this month.
The goal of this initiative is to make people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease feel happy, artistic, and proud.

OMA involves students with dementia in making improvisational art through a series of workshops, according to a press statement from the organisation.

OMA courses are slated to be given at all three:

SeniorsPlus locations in the upcoming months from 1 to 2 p.m. on Fridays: SeniorsPlus at 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston, from July 14 to August 18, and SeniorsPlus at 9 Marston St., Norway.

The six-week programme pairs individuals with dementia (the “artists”) with helpers who assist them in creating art without the use of recollection.
SeniorsPlus is looking for volunteers to work one-on-one with programme members in addition to pupils for the programme. No prior knowledge of painting is necessary.

Throughout the six-week programme, volunteers are partnered one-on-one with dementia patients (the “artists”) to assist them in creating art without the aid of recollection.
Both programme participants and helpers to assist class attendees one-on-one are needed by SeniorsPlus. No prior experience with painting is necessary.
